Indications of beta-adrenoceptor blockers in Takotsubo syndrome and theoretical reasons to prefer agents with vasodilating activity

چکیده

Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is estimated to account for 1–3% of all patients presenting with suspected ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. A sudden surge in sympathetic nervous system considered the cause TTS. Nonetheless, no specific recommendations have been provided regarding β-blocking therapy. Apart from contra-indications (severe LV dysfunction, hypotension, bradycardia and corrected QT interval >500 ms), treatment a β-blocker seems reasonable until full recovery ejection fraction, though evidence limited few animal studies, case reports or observational studies. In this review, we will reappraise rationale therapy TTS speculate on pathophysiologic basis preferring non-selective agents vasodilating activity over β1-selective drugs.

Pharmacokinetics of beta-adrenoceptor blockers in obese and normal volunteers.

AIMS Obesity can modify the pharmacokinetics of lipophilic drugs. As beta-adrenoceptor blockers (BB) are often prescribed for obese patients suffering from hypertension or coronary heart disease, this study compares the pharmacokinetics of lipophilic beta-adrenoceptor blockers in obese and control subjects. METHODS Nine obese (157 +/- 24% of ideal body weight (IBW) mean +/- s.d.) and nine non...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

BM 12.434, a novel compound with vasodilating and beta-adrenoceptor-blocking activities.

1. BM 12.434 was compared with a known beta-adrenoceptor-blocking agent, metipranolol, and a combination of metipranolol and isosorbide-5-mononitrate in healthy volunteers. BM 12.434 and metipranolol were given in equi-effective beta-adrenoceptor-blocking doses (reduction of exercise-increased pulse--pressure product). 2. Responses of the cardiovascular system were determined by non-invasive me...

Beta-adrenoceptor blockers in chronic heart failure--a review.

There are now considerable clinical trial data to support the use of beta-adrenoceptor blockers in patients with chronic heart failure due to systolic left ventricular dysfunction. Increases in ejection fraction, improved well-being as judged by both patient and physician and reduced progression of ventricular dysfunction have been demonstrated. From meta-analyses of available trial data, a mor...

Four reasons to prefer Bayesian analyses Four reasons to prefer Bayesian analyses over significance testing

Inference using significance testing and Bayes factors is compared and contrasted in five case studies based on real research. The first study illustrates that the methods will often agree, both in motivating researchers to conclude that H1 is supported better than H0 and the other way round, that H0 is better supported than H1. The next four however, show that the methods will also often disag...
